It's that time of the year...

It's that time of the year...

I went to University of Scranton and graduated back in 2009. I went back to my home in NJ and taught in an inner city school my first year out while attending grad school. Married my college sweetheart and followed him down to DC where I picked up a job my second year of teaching in October (2010). Taught for two years before having my first baby in May of 2012. I have been out of the school world since then. I continue to tutor, but I have not had a classroom since May 2012--- due to having baby number 2 in 2014 and vowing to be home with them until they start school.

It is this time every year that I have this urge to get back into the classroom. I find myself still pinning ideas. Thinking about what my classroom would look like. Looking longingly at my teaching boxes taking up space in our basement. I then look at my littles and know that I would not want to be anywhere but right where I am.

I feel like once you are a teacher, you never lose that sense of being in the classroom. I still have the back to school nightmares every so often. I think about how I would teach differently now that I have my own kids. I realize the expectations of parents in thinking their kid is top of your radar (along with the 25+ other kids in the class). I stress how I will handle being back in the classroom, teaching, caring, loving so many kiddos and coming home to my own. I know this all seems silly as I still have at least 3 more years before I head back, but this time of year, I can't help but think about it.

As everyone is posting their back to school pictures. Blogs that I follow have set up their classrooms and talking about first day of school activities, I long to be in the middle of it all. I don't envy the staff meetings, the paperwork, the test prep, the demanding parents, the off the wall kids.

What are you most looking forward to this school year? What are you dreading?

I can't wait to use this blog as my space to remind myself of all the wonderful things other teachers are posting/pinning/sharing with the world so when it's time for me to head back- I can be prepared. Until then, I will post for you all! :)
